Southwark Youth Orchestra (SYO) - Calling all Musicians!
SYO is an orchestra with a Grade 5+ entry standard targeted at the more experienced young musicians in Southwark. We also warmly invite players from the South Riverside Music Partnership Boroughs of Lambeth, Lewisham and Greenwich to join SYO
'We are inspired by the work and services you and your team are giving to our young Southwark musicians, especially getting them together as a unit in the short time of one week. He enjoys playing music and through his relationship with SYO he has become more assertive and influential among his peers over the past years. His power to play music has seen him grow in approach from amateur to that of an expert.'

Support the Southwark Youth Orchestra
Southwark is a borough with much to celebrate and be proud of, and SYO is a unique opportunity for Southwark’s young musicians to come together to form a real community orchestra, and we hope you will support the music service by joining in. Please also let any other young people you know in the borough who may be interested about the course –SYO is still very young so your support in helping us get off the ground would be hugely appreciated. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We sincerely look forward to receiving your application forms and meeting you at SYO in the near future.
SYO - We love it!
We've gathered together the thoughts of our performers on what they most enjoy about taking part in SYO courses:
Playing as a whole orchestra / the chance to play with many other musicians
Learning something new everyday
The variety of music
The contrast between whole orchestra and sectional rehearsals
Learning and playing new repertoire
Putting all the pieces together and it being brilliant
We also asked our players how they see the orchestra as helping them to improve their levels of musicianship:
Playing as a group / working with others
How to listen to different parts
To achieve the best I need to stretch myself further
To be accurate with timing
To play tricky rhythms
How to play different styles of music
