The Southwark Music HubOn 4 May 2012, the Department of Education announced the nationwide network of 122 music education hubs. The hubs were identified through an open application process and opened for business in September 2012.
The aim of all music education hubs is to ensure that every child aged 5-18 has the opportunity to sing and learn a musical instrument, and to perform as part of an ensemble or choir. It will also allow young people to take their talent further - this might be through local ensembles, partnerships with nationally funded music organisations, including National portfolio organisations or through involvement in the Music and Dance Scheme. As the lead partner in the Southwark Music Hub, Southwark Music Service will build on our existing relationships with schools, music organisations and practitioners and form new partnerships to ensure we continue to provide the very best music education for the young people of our community.
