On Wednesday 2nd March, our very first Spring Sharing event took place on the Clore Ballroom of the Southbank Centre. The service worked, in partnership with Southwark Schools and the Southbank Centre, to show off some of the very best of our whole class work in primary and secondary schools and also give the first public performance by the Souhwark Youth Orchestra. We had a wonderful time as you can see from these pictures and videos.
On Saturday 5th March, the Southwark Youth Orchestra was back performing at the Southbank for the second time in a week in the Music for Youth festival. We were so proud of the young people who played with such a professional attitude. More on this here.
Last Tuesday our partners at ‘Excellence in Southwark’ which is managed by ex- Southwark Headteacher Joe Rae and assisted by our own Jo Fitzmaurice, put on their annual ‘I gospel’ concert, again at the Southbank. 3 secondary and 9 primary schools from across the borough took part in the gospel extravaganza and as usual the young people of Southwark showed everyone present how to do it - singing, dancing and having fun – it was great. Please contact Jo for more chances to get involved with EiS events.
Finally, I want to tell you about our new singing programme lead by Dominic Stichbury. There is news about the two day programme for schools here but additionally, Dominic recently led some training at Cator Street covering, ‘Getting your Whole School Singing’, ‘Singing for the Terrified’ and ‘Beat Boxing’. About 30 people came to one or more sessions and the feedback was excellent. We had lots of fun and it was particularly great to see a selection of colleagues testing out their beat boxing skills, see below!
